Hey y’all and welcome to Sewspire!
Today I am here to show you how to sew a long rectangular caddy with side handles and press lock closure. I really like the size and shape of this project and am confident it can serve many purposes. Please share your intended use in the comments!
For this project you will need to precut the following pattern pieces:
- Side panels: 6″ x 8″, cut 4
- Front and rear panels: 14″ x 8″, cut 4
- Base panels: 14″ x 6″, cut 2
- Flap closure: 13.5″ x 8″, cut 2
- Handles: 4″ x 8″, cut 2
Optional patchwork flap crafted from one 2.5″ x 8″ accent panel + two 6″ x 8″ panels
Approximate finished measurements:
13″ across the front x 6.6″ tall x 5″ deep
You can use your choice of attached closures, such as a press lock, or a 6″ piece of sew in hook and loop tape.
I suggest using a 5/8″ seam allowance for your interior seams. You can alter that as long as you are consistent throughout the project.
