Collaborative Patchwork Backpack by Sewspire

Episode 5: On the sunny side

Hey y’all and welcome to Sewspire!

In this episode we are creating elasticized side pockets and attaching the side panels to our front panel.

For this portion of the project you will need to create two more quilted panels from the 4″ squares. Each panel is two squares wide and five squares high, for a total of ten squares per panel. Your finished panels should measure approximately 7.0″-7.5″ x 17″-18″ . The elasticized pockets will be fashioned from two pieces of quilt weight cotton fabric which measure 12″ wide by 20″ tall. I used a 7″ piece of 1/4″ elastic for each pocket.

In the next episode, which I will record tomorrow, we will true up the 3 way panel we created in this episode by adding a top drawstring gusset.

I am thrilled with how this bag is coming together and hope you are enjoying the project! Please follow Sewspire on Instagram and Facebook for additional project updates.

Until next time, the creative genius in me salutes the creative genius in you!

XO,

Andrea
