How to sew a notebook cover with zippered pocket

Hey y’all and welcome back to Sewspire!

I am so happy to be here with you, sharing this creative time together. Today, I want to teach you how to sew a custom notebook cover that will fit a standard size composition book that measures approximately 7″ wide by 9.25″ tall.

For this project you will need a heavier weight twill fabric for the body and some lighter quilt weight cotton for the pockets + an 8″ YKK zipper which you can purchase from Zipit on Etsy.

I especially love this notebook cover because it has an exterior zippered pocket for my pens, post it notes, stickers and paper clips! Inside there are two more handy pockets perfectly sized for business cards.

In preparation, you will need to precut the following pattern pieces:

Cotton interior flap pockets 8.25″ x 4.75″ (cut 2)

Cotton interior flaps 5″ x 10.5″ (cut 2)

Twill body panels 10.5″ x 15″ (cut 2)

Cotton zipper pocket trim 10.5″ x 2″ (cut 2)

Cotton exterior pocket 4″ x 10.5″ (cut 1)

Cotton zipper pocket tabs 3.25″ x 2″ (cut 2)

Please let me know if you enjoy this project and /or have any ideas as to how to improve the design. I thank you for spending this time with me and will be back next week with another inspired sewing project.

Until then, the creative genius in me salutes the creative genius in YOU.

XO!

Andrea
