How to sew a fabric bunting banner

Sewspire Welcome Banner

Hey y’all and welcome to Sewspire!

I am so happy you are here and glad we can spend some time together creating today. This is our first project in the new studio and I am really excited to share it with you because the finished sample is now being used to decorate the bookshelf which is also the backdrop for my video tutorials. As you can see, it coordinates beautifully with the other fixtures and adds an element of whimsy.

Like all of my sewing projects, this banner is fun and easy to sew, and can be used to dress up and personalize any space. I think it would make a lovely baby, birthday or housewarming gift and could be used to decorate a nursery, child’s room, dorm, office, craft room or add a personalized touch to your next celebration.

For this project you will need multiple pairs of fabric rectangles which measure 5″ wide by 4″ tall. My banner incorporates 9 flags and measures 100″ long. The binding strip which holds the flag is crafted from four 3″ wide x 25″ long strips of material which I stitched together to create one 100″ long strip.

I’d love to see photos of your finished banners and invite you to tag #sewspire @sewspire on Instagram and Facebook.

Happy Sewing my Friends!

XO! Andrea
