How to sew The Quick Tripper Bag

Hey y’all and welcome to Sewspire!

Today I am here to show you how to sew a small lightweight bag that is perfect for quick trips into the store, library, post office and the like. I plan to leave two of these in my car at all times so I can toss my wallet, phone and keys inside when I don’t feel like carrying my bigger bag.

For this project you will need to precut the following pieces of fabric or craft patchwork panels that measure the same:

Cut four, 9″ x 12″ panels for the body of the bag, two of these will be lined with quilt batting and used for the exterior.

Cut two, 5″ x 9″ pieces for the zipper casing

In addition you will need a 7″ non separating zipper and 24″ piece of 1″ leather or webbing for the handle.

Optional: beaded zipper pull

Fabric requirements: approximately a half yard

You can create an optional hard bottom base using two pieces of material that measure 7″ x 3″ and a 2″ x 5″ piece of foam board or stiff interfacing. Watch this video to learn how to fashion a removable base:
