How to sew a boxy zippered cosmetic bag

Hey y’all and welcome to Sewspire!

Today I am here to show you how to so this boxy zippered pouch which is ideal for storing cosmetics, small collections and so much more!

This sewing project may be addictive as I can’t stop sewing these sweet bags. I keep finding uses for them and they make me so happy!

For this project you will need two 12″ x 10″ cotton fabric pieces, one 7″ YKK zipper to match, 12″ of embroidery floss and a small felt ball or pom.

I hope you enjoy the project and will share photos of your finished bags with our creative community on the Sewspire Facebook and Instagram pages.

I will be back next week with another inspired sewing project. Until then, please know the creative genius in me salutes the creative genius in you!

P.S. Please join me in congratulating last week’s Happy Mail winner Sherri Redden. If you would like to enter to win my weekly sewing project simply click on the Happy Mail tab to sign up.

How to sew an oversized cosmetic bag

Welcome to Sewspire!

This week we are making an oversized cosmetic bag with zippered top closure. This project comes together quickly and can serve a multitude of purposes depending upon what you need to contain: art supplies, make up, toiletries, small toys and more.

For this project you will need one 16″ zipper and 4 cuts of fabric which measure 10″ tall by 18″ wide.

The bag comes together in less than 30 minutes and is a fun and easy sew!

As always I thank you for checking in / tuning in and I hope you enjoy the project. I will be back next week with another surprise sewing project and what I think is a pretty big announcement.

How to sew a cosmetic bag

Hello and Welcome back to Sewspire!

This project is a special request from one of our sewing circle friends. It is quick and easy to sew and makes a wonderful gift that can be used to organize cosmetics and other smallish treasures. The project requires less than a half of yard of fabric, a few pieces of quilt batting and some sew in hook and loop tape. I have outlined the construction process in this short video. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for future sewing tutorials and I will let you know if I can make it happen.

Happy sewing!

P.S. Also, if you wouldn’t mind, give me a quick shout out in the comments or on Instagram or Facebook and let me know you enjoyed the project!

How to Sew a Zippered Travel Bag

Initially I thought I might use this beautiful patchwork bag as a travel cosmetic tote and then I realized it holds the quilting trays (which I use to teach my classes at the local community center) absolutely perfectly! So, now it is my traveling quilting bag; but, you will certainly want to keep your mind open to the many possibilities that will reveal themselves to you for your own new zippered bag!

I have outlined the construction process in a single 30 minute video (posted to YouTube and linked below) and included the pattern measurement roundup below for your convenience.

As always, please let me know if you need more info or have suggestions as to how this design can be improved. I love hearing from you and appreciate your input. I hope you enjoy the project— and if you feel called to do so—please DO SHARE your ideas as to how you are going to use the bag and photos of your finished project on the Sewspire Instagram and Facebook pages.

XO! Andrea
