Large Purse with Press Lock Closure

How to sew a Lovely Large Press Lock Purse

Hey y’all and welcome to Sewspire!

Today I am here to show you how to sew a lovely large purse with press lock closure. I especially love the combination of the twill and quilted roses on this particular bag. You can easily customize the pockets to suit your needs perfectly and this bag would be adorable with a short shoulder strap—thereby leaving you lots of possibilities to personalize it!

To craft as shown, you will need to precut the following pattern pieces:

Cut two 15″ x 15″ exterior body panels from twill

Cut two 15″ x 15″ interior body panels from cotton and back them with quilt batting

Cut four 15″ x 9″ pocket panels from cotton and back two of them with quilt batting and quilt as desired

Cut two 6″ x 8″ flap panels from cotton and back one with quilt batting and quilt as desired

Cut one 3″ x 12″ key fob from cotton

Plus one 1/2″ key fob

Plus 48″ of 1.75″ webbing

Plus one press lock

I ordered my webbing on Etsy from this fabulous shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/AGraffSupplies and notice she is no longer stocking that width so feel free to substitute as needed.

Your finished bag will measure approximately 9″ across the base, 13″ across the top and 4″ deep.

I hope you enjoy the improved video and audio in this latest tutorial and want to offer up a BIG heartfelt THANK YOU to the 60+ subscribers who came to the rescue and were quick to donate to the equipment fund last week. In less than 24 hours we were able to replace my old and tired recording set up with a GoPro 5 and Rode Mic + upgrade the memory card and purchase the necessary mic adapter. Many have donated since and those funds will be used to purchase a spare battery as well as start a future needs fund. So, once again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I am thrilled with the new equipment and can not possibly express how much your kindness and generosity means to me!

I also want to thank those of you who urged me to start a Patreon page. After reading more about the platform I agree that is the responsible thing to do. If you are not familiar, Patreon is a new platform, that was designed specifically to help creators and makers earn a sustainable income or in our case the funds would be used to offset the costs of running the YouTube Channel, Sewspire.com and publishing Behind the Seams. In exchange for a small monthly pledge, of $5, our Sewspire Patrons will be receiving some fabulous thank you gifts, including:

–A free advance PDF copy of all future written sewing tutorials I create well before the rest of the world can buy them.

–A link to a private weekly vlog recorded exclusively for Patrons and chockfull of sewing inspiration.

–Access to a monthly live chat, reserved for Patrons only, where we can hangout as a group and talk about anything you like for 30 minutes or so.

–My sincere gratitude.
