Hey y’all and welcome back to Sewspire!
Today I am going to show you how I sew a low profile hip bag. This project comes together quickly and is unique because of the three pleats incorporated into the flap, front and rear panels. I especially love this style of bag because it sits slim on the hip and is nice and comfy to wear cross body. The rear pocket is especially handy for those items you like to keep close at hand, such as the to do list and cell phone.
For this project you will need to precut the follow fabric pieces:
Cut two exterior body panels to measure 12″ wide by 15″ tall
Cut two interior body pieces to measure 10″ wide by 15″ tall
Cut one exterior flap panel to measure 10″ wide by 11″ tall
Cut three interior flap panel pieces to measure 5″ x 8″, 5″ x 8″ and 3″ x 8″
Cut three strap panel pieces to measure 15″ x 5″, 5″ x 5″ and 32″ x 5″
Cut one strip of batting 48″ x 2.5″
Cut one exterior pocket trim piece to measure 3″ tall by 10″ wide
*I suggest using a heavy weight twill for the exterior body panels and pocket. And, a cotton quilt weight fabric for the interior, pocket trim, handle and flap lining.
I hope you enjoyed this project and will share it with your creative friends and family. I will be back next week with another inspired sewing project. Until then, the creative genius in me salutes the creative genius in you!
XO,
Andrea
