How to sew a simple press lock clutch

Hey y’all and welcome to Sewspire!

Today I am here to show you how to craft a simple clutch with press lock closure. The primary purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how you can take a basic shape, such as a rectangle, add a pop of color and a few angles to create a beautiful and functional piece.

You can easily incorporate interior pockets, a small key fob and wristlet strap to add function to this design. In addition, I think a quilted flap could be a lot of fun too!

For this project you will need to precut:

One 12″ x 16″ rectangle from a twill or woven home decor fabric for the exterior body

One 12″ x 16″ rectangle from a cotton quilt weight fabric and backed with Pellon 809

Two 8″ x 9″ rectangles from cotton quilt weight fabric and back one with Pellon 809

A press lock closure

The approximate finished measurements are: 11″ across the base, 9″ across the top and 7″ tall.

I hope you enjoy the project and it offers you a small taste of my design theory. For those of you who are interested in learning more about how I design my own bags and patterns I want to invite you to become a Patron of Sewspire. When we reach our goal of 200 Patrons I will be releasing my first Master Class videos to our Patreon community. For more details hop on over to www.patreon.com/sewspire

I will be back next week with another inspired project. Until then, please know the creative genius in me will be celebrating the creative genius in you!
